About trains.rhysg.net
What is the site about?
The site aim's to provide live train running information across the UK Rail Network, this is done through Live Train Describers and Train Schedules with live running info from TRUST.
What is a Train Describer?
A train describer (TD) is an electronic device that controls what is displayed on a panel of berths, which are usually associated with signals, along a railway line. The TD keeps track of train positions by using train numbers and messages from signaling and interlocking systems. As the train moves from signal to signal, the TD's description "steps" from berth to berth to show the train's progress. Signallers and others, such as shunters, can insert train descriptions.
What is TRUST?
TRUST (Train Running Under System TOPS) is a Network Rail computer system used for monitoring the progress of trains and tracking delays on Great Britain's rail network.
Where does the data come from?
The data is provided by Network Rail through the open data feeds they provide which are free to use. The feeds used on the site are the TD, Train Movement, VSTP and Schedule feeds.
